South Shore Health is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt, charitable health system that includes primary and specialty care, acute care, urgent care and home and community services to over 700,000 residents of the South Shore and Southeastern Massachusetts. We are the region’s most comprehensive health care system providing the highest quality of medical care where and when it is needed.
South Shore Hospital, as part of South Shore Health, is the only community hospital in Massachusetts with a designated Level II Trauma Center. Our emergency department is the fourth busiest in Massachusetts, with over 96,000 visits a year. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the first and only one in the state of Massachusetts to receive designation as a Level III NICU. Our Home and Community Care staff makes over 200,000 home visits per year in 32 communities.
South Shore Health has earned an “A” rating from The Leapfrog Group — a designation that ranks our hospital among the safest in the country. South Shore Hospital is among the elite six percent of hospitals nationwide to earn Magnet recognition for excellence in nursing services by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program and has received the American Association of Critical Care Nurses Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence.
